“A Dream Come True”: Maseko On Sealing A Major European Move

Bafana Bafana star winger Thapelo Maseko has described his move to Danish giants FC Copenhagen as a dream come true.
Maseko, who starred during Bafana Bafana’s historic run to the AFCON 2023 knockout stages and bronze medal finish, was omitted from Sundowns’ recent pre-season training.
The move marks a major European breakthrough after his 2023 transfer to Sundowns from SuperSport United.
He made an immediate impact, as he was awarded the Best Player and Top Scorer awards in Sundowns’ inaugural 2023 AFL title win, but he was hampered by injuries thereafter and was also loaned out last season to AEL Limassol in Cyprus.
How Did Sibusiso Zuma Influence Maseko’s Decision?

Maseko follows in the footsteps of South African legend Sibusiso Zuma, a iconic figure at Parken Stadium celebrated for his legendary 2001 bicycle kick against Brøndby. Zuma played a pivotal role in convincing the young winger to make the move to Denmark.
“I am very proud of this agreement. It is a dream come true,” said Maseko.
“To me, F.C. Copenhagen are a very special club. They are a club that is highly recognised internationally, and Zuma has told me so many great things about the club, the fans, and the city. I am looking forward to experiencing it all myself.
“I am truly honored to get this opportunity, and it fills me with hunger and ambition. I have come here to make a difference and leave my mark on the club. I have big ambitions for the club and on a personal level. I come here to win, and I am very excited to get out on the pitch and give everything I’ve got.”
What Role Will Maseko Play Under Bo Svensson?
FC Copenhagen head coach Bo Svensson praised Maseko’s explosive skill set and direct style of play.
“In Thapelo, we get an explosive, dynamic player with exceptional qualities in direct, 1-on-1 situations. His pace and ability to challenge his direct opponent will make him a constant threat in behind, but he can also use his left foot to assist teammates when cutting inside,” says Svensson.
“There are naturally still elements to refine, but Thapelo’s potential is high, and he always works tirelessly for the team, so we are really looking forward to working with him on a daily basis.”
Maseko will wear shirt number 12 for the upcoming campaign.
