Anthony Taylor To Officiate Crucial Sundowns vs. Fluminense Match

FIFA has confirmed that English referee Anthony Taylor will be in charge of Mamelodi Sundowns’ final FIFA Club World Cup Group F match against Fluminense on Wednesday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Taylor will be assisted by fellow English officials Gary Beswick as the first assistant and Adam Nunn as the second assistant. Ivan Barton from Slovenia will serve as the fourth official.
Sundowns, having secured a 1-0 victory over Ulsan in their opening match but losing to Borussia Dortmund in their second, must defeat Fluminense on Wednesday to secure their spot in the knockout stages of the competition.
This will be the second Club World Cup game for the Cheshire-born Taylor to officiate. He was previously in charge when Jose Riveiro’s Al Ahly lost 2-0 to Palmeiras at Metlife Stadium on Thursday. That particular match saw a significant delay of over 40 minutes due to adverse weather conditions, with fans instructed to seek shelter within the stadium.
Taylor brings a wealth of experience to the fixture. He began officiating in the English Premier League in 2010 before earning his FIFA badge in 2013. His extensive career includes officiating several high-profile matches globally. He was the man in the middle for the FIFA Club World Cup final in the 2022/23 season, which saw Real Madrid defeat Al Hilal 5-3 in Morocco.
In the same season, he also oversaw Sevilla’s victory against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League final. Other major final appointments include Bayern Munich’s win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup in the 2020/21 season, and France’s triumph over Spain in the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
