Bafana Bafana To Assess Sithole’s Injury

Bafana Bafana midfielder Sphephelo Sithole’s injury will be evaluated upon his arrival with the national team in South Africa on Wednesday.
The injury occurred during Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against South Sudan.
Sithole was involved in a reckless tackle and sustained what appeared to be an ankle injury. The KZN Academy graduate was forced off in the 72nd minute, replaced by Thalente Mbatha, who again proved to be a hero, scoring a late goal to secure Bafana Bafana’s 3-2 victory.
“The extent of Sphephelo Sithole’s injury will be determined upon landing in Johannesburg after the midfielder was stretchered off the pitch during Bafana Bafana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan on Tuesday,” said SAFA in a statement on Wednesday.
“Coach Hugo Broos’ charges beat the home side 3-2 at Juba National Stadium, but the win came at a cost as Sithole suffered the injury in the second half.
“The Bafana Bafana medical department will determine the extent of the injury after the team returns to South Africa on Wednesday night.”
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will be hoping for a positive diagnosis regarding Sithole’s injury ahead of two crucial AFCON qualifying matches against Congo next month. Bafana Bafana will host Congo on 7 October, followed by an away match eight days later.
