Bafana International Joins Tunisian Giants

Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana has joined Tunisian giants Esperance.

The move sees Mokwana depart Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United on a contract that extends until 2027.

The transfer was finalized this week with Sekhukhune official Floyd Mbele accompanying Mokwana to Tunisia to complete the deal. “It’s now official,” the club announced. “Elias Mokwana is a player for Esperance de Tunis until 2027. Welcome.”

Signed by Sekhukhune from Platinum City Rovers in the 2022/23 season, the 24-year-old made a substantial impact, contributing seven goals and seven assists in 68 matches across all competitions for Babina Noko.

Mokwana has earned four caps for Bafana Bafana, scoring once. His debut goal against Andorra in the FIFA Series matches in March showcased his talent and earned him a place alongside Doctor Khumalo, Mpho Makola, Evidence Makgopa, and Bongokuhle Hlongwane as players who scored on their Bafana Bafana debuts.

Esperance knocked Mamelodi Sundowns out of the CAF Champions League semi final, but lost in the final to Egyptian giant Al Ahly.
