Bafana Storms Into COSAFA Cup Final

Bafana Bafana has secured a spot in the final of the COSAFA Cup, defeating Comoros 3-1 in a thrilling match at Toyota Stadium on Friday evening.
The home side dominated the game from the outset, creating numerous chances in the first 15 minutes and capitalizing on their opportunities.
The opening goal came in the eighth minute when Kamogelo Sebelebele’s shot was deflected by Idris Mohamed, resulting in an own goal.
Just six minutes later, Orlando Pirates’ young striker Boitumelo Radiopane clipped a stunning goal, courtesy of a brilliant assist from Gape Moralo, doubling Bafana’s lead.
Comoros responded well, and their efforts paid off in the 29th minute when Ibrahim Madi scored a great goal, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
However, Bafana Bafana regained their momentum after conceding, with Radiopane almost scoring a brace in the 42nd minute, only to be denied by a spectacular save from Comoros’ goalkeeper Naime Mchindra.
The second half saw coach Vela Khumalo introduce Siyanda Msani and Masindi Nemtajela to strengthen Bafana’s attack.
The duo’s introduction had an immediate impact, creating several scoring opportunities, although they were unable to capitalize on them initially.
However, Moralo’s high press in the 60th minute forced Zainou Mohamed to make a mistake, which Sebelebele pounced on to score the third goal for Bafana Bafana.
Khumalo’s side continued to press for more goals, and their efforts were rewarded with a free-kick in the 80th minute after Naimoudine Assan fouled Sebelebele, earning himself a red card.
Unfortunately, Moralo’s free-kick hit the wall, and Bafana Bafana was unable to score another goal, despite their relentless attacks.
The 3-1 victory marks a significant milestone for Bafana Bafana, who last reached the final in 2021 and won the title in Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The team will now face the defending champions Angola in the final on Sunday at Toyota Stadium. Angola, who won the competition last year by beating Namibia 5-0 in the final, will provide a tough test for Bafana Bafana.
Interestingly, both teams have a common thread, having won their last COSAFA Cup titles in Eastern Cape at Nelson Mandela Bay.
