Barns Moves Back To Richards Bay From Stellies

Sanele Barns has completed a return to Richards Bay from Stellenbosch FC, Sportswire has learnt.

The publication has been informed that Barns is set to be involved for Richards Bay when they face Golden Arrows in a KwaZulu-Natal derby in the Betway Premiership at Umhlathuze Sports Ground on Friday.

Barns becomes Richards Bay’s third signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Thembela Sikhakhane and Joel Madondo.

The 28-year-old winger was sold by Richards Bay to Stellenbosch ahead of last season after playing a key role in helping the KZN side survive the relegation and promotion play-offs in the previous campaign.

Barns was an integral member of the squad during his first spell at the club, making 62 appearances after joining from the University of Pretoria ahead of the 2022/23 season, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists.

This season at Stellenbosch, Barns featured in 22 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals, though it became evident that he was not fully fitting into the club’s plans.

Despite coach Gavin Hunt opting to offload him, Barns remained involved with the Cape Winelands side in 16 matches, including their defeat to CR Belouizdad in the final CAF Confederation Cup group-stage fixture on Sunday.

Barns now returns to the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit coached by Papi Zothwane, Siboniso Gumede and Ronnie Gabriel, who currently sit ninth on the Betway Premiership standings with 18 points from 15 matches.
