Bay Coach Draws Confidence In Wins Over Chiefs Last Season

Richards Bay co-coach Ronnie Gabriel acknowledges that their away game against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday will be challenging, but he plans to draw on the team’s success from last season.
Last season, the Natal Rich Boys defeated Chiefs both at home and away, helping them secure a spot in the top eight for the first time.
However, their start to the current season has been difficult; they have lost two opening league games and are now in 15th place with zero points.
The losses came against Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows, respectively, all at home. The KwaZulu-Natal club was also hammered 4-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter finals.
In contrast, the Glamour Boys have had a great start, winning their first two games without conceding a single goal.
Gabriel hopes to use their past victories against Chiefs as motivation for the upcoming clash. “I think we have to look back at our last season’s performance against Chiefs, and bring back those feelings, bring back those memories, and believe that we can go there and beat Chiefs,” he said.
“I think in the last fixture, we beat Chiefs here at home. So, we will have to go back into our thinking and see how we planned and use that as a motivation to know that we can go away from home and give Chiefs a game and hopefully, get a result away from home.”
Despite seeing the match as a difficult one, Gabriel believes his team has a chance to win. “Chiefs away from home is always a tough fixture, it’s always a big fixture, and we will have to prepare well,” he stated.
