Broos Cautiously Optimistic After AFCON Qualifiers Draw
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has weighed in on the results of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers draw, held on Thursday.
Drawn in Pot 1 due to their impressive bronze medal performance at the 2023 AFCON, Broos acknowledged the need for caution despite a seemingly favorable group. Bafana Bafana finds themselves in Group K alongside Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan.
“When we look at our performances in the AFCON at the beginning of the year in Côte d’Ivoire where we achieved the bronze medal, and also in the following games (in the FIFA Series in Algeria), I think we can be very confident,” said Broos.
“It will be important to achieve our level, our good level of the last few months. We have to say that from this group we have to qualify for AFCON 25 in Morocco.”
Bafana Bafana’s qualification campaign kicks off with a home fixture against Uganda, followed by an away trip to Sudan. The remaining matches alternate between home and away fixtures against Congo and Uganda, concluding with a home game against South Sudan. Only the top two teams from the group will secure their place in the tournament held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
