Cardoso Praises Teamwork And Young Players After Sundowns’ Win Over Magesi

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after securing a victory over Magesi in the Betway Premiership match at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Jayden Adams and Peter Shalulile scored the winning goals for the Brazilians to win 2-0, moving to third place with seven points.

Cardoso started the game with three young players, Gomolemo Kekana, Kutlwano Letlhaku, and Siyabonga Mabena, and praised their performance despite expecting a slower start.

“Well, sometimes the work that the bees in the first half do also helps to pick the honey in the end,” Cardoso said on SuperSport TV after the match.

“Well, teamwork, of course, when you put three young players who have just started at this level, we should expect that things go a little bit slower.

“But it’s teamwork, and we knew that we had quality to add to the match, we had all to change the match, and we knew that we had to do it gradually, considering the different moments and the different places that we could put in.”

The Portuguese mentor was pleased with the response from his players, particularly the young trio.

“They gave a good answer, and I’m very happy because of the work that, in general, all of them did.”

Looking ahead to their next match against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at Lucas Moripe Stadium in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal, Cardoso emphasized the importance of resilience and mental strength.

“We know that we need to be resilient, we need to be mentally strong, we need to fight for every match with the most energy we can so that we produce results that take us to the front,” he added.

“We hope we have a Masandana family filling our stadium, and that will help us to get the energy from them.

“Like today, we felt them here, and we’re going to be strong for sure on Saturday. It will be a beautiful match for sure.”
