Cele Aims Redemption Against Arrows After Recent Setback

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele believes their recent defeat presents an opportunity for redemption this weekend.

Chiefs suffered a 2-0 loss to Richards Bay in a Betway Premiership match on 16 March, marking their ninth league defeat of the season.

They have a chance to bounce back when they visit another KwaZulu-Natal side, Golden Arrows, at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon—one of Chiefs’ alternative home venues.

Chiefs will be seeking revenge against Arrows, who recently defeated them at the iconic 2010 venue in January with a stunning strike from Gladwin Shitolo.

That victory marked Arrows’ first win against Chiefs at the 2010 FIFA World Cup semifinal stadium, and they will now aim to secure their first home win against Chiefs at the same venue.

However, Cele, who joined Chiefs during the January transfer window, remains optimistic despite their previous loss.

“It is a positive mind; we are trying to share it amongst ourselves,” Cele stated.

“Because it is football, it is life. You fall, you rise, so that is how I look at things.

“We are trying to feed that fire for the next game and that we need it because that is very important.”

The match was relocated from Mpumalanga Stadium to Moses Mabhida Stadium due to the anticipated large crowd that Chiefs typically draw in Durban.

Both Chiefs and Arrows enter this match following defeats in their previous outings. Arrows lost to Magesi away on 15 March, their first loss under coach Manqoba Mngqithi, who was appointed earlier this month after departing Mamelodi Sundowns in December.
