Chiefs Midfielder Vows High Performance In 2026/27

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has expressed his determination to perform at his highest level during the 2026/27 season as he looks to cement his place in the team.

The 26-year-old midfielder has made steady progress since being promoted to Chiefs’ first team in 2017. A product of the club’s development academy, Ngcobo remains one of the players expected to play an important role as Amakhosi prepare for the new campaign.

Chiefs recently exercised the one-year option in Ngcobo’s contract, signalling their faith in him under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The Frenchman has already enjoyed a successful start to his tenure, guiding Amakhosi to their first piece of silverware by winning the Toyota Cup, a pre-season tournament ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Chiefs secured a 1-0 victory over Zimbabwean side Scottland FC on Sunday, with Mfundo Vilakazi scoring the decisive first-half goal.

Ngcobo said he is determined to make a significant impact whenever he is called upon this season.

“I am feeling good and looking forward to the new season,” said Ngcobo.

“My aim is always to work harder, do the right things and put all of my energy into the game, so I am eager to perform at my highest level this season.”

Meanwhile, the Soweto giants concluded their pre-season preparations with a training camp in Spain, where they drew two matches before suffering defeat in their final outing of the tour.

Despite the mixed results, Ngcobo believes the camp was a valuable experience for both himself and the team.

“The training camp went very well,” he said.

“Personally, I found it quite demanding, but it was a good challenge. I pushed myself to become a better player and a better person. As a team, it was also a great experience. We all gained a lot from the camp, and we will take those lessons into the new campaign.”

Amakhosi will begin their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign against newly promoted Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
