Chippa Reach Nedbank Cup Semis

Chippa United dispatched TS Galaxy, knocking them out of the Nedbank Cup by winning 2-0 and reach the Ke Yona Cup semifinals.

Chippa, finalists in this competition in 2021, join Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch, and Mamelodi Sundowns in the last four. This extends Chippa’s impressive run under co-coaches Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September, who were appointed during the Africa Cup of Nations break.

Last weekend, they matched Kaizer Chiefs’ performance at home, and today in Mbombela followed a similar pattern. However, a golden opportunity fell to TS Galaxy in the first half. Samir Nurkovic’s powerful shot in the 27th minute rattled the crossbar, leaving Chippa’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali relieved.

Just three minutes later, Bienveni Eva Nga outshone Nurkovic, heading a looping ball past Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari for his second goal in two weeks. While Chippa couldn’t extend their lead, pressure mounted for the visitors. Eventually, Galaxy earned a penalty, but Nwabali, Nigeria’s standout goalkeeper at the Africa Cup of Nations, dived to his right and made a crucial block, leaving coach Sead Ramovic frustrated.

The momentum shifted back to Chippa, who were awarded a penalty of their own. Roscoe Pietersen converted confidently, securing their second goal and their second win in ten matches against Galaxy. This marked Galaxy’s first defeat to Chippa under Ramovic, having previously won four encounters, including a December meeting.
