Sundowns And Pirates Kept Apart In The Nedbank Cup Semis

The Nedbank Cup semifinal has been announced, with Mamelodi Sundowns set to visit Stellenbosch FC in the final four.

Orlando Pirates, who won this cup last year, will visit Chippa United, with the game likely to take place at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The final of this year’s tournament will be held at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on 1 June, announced on Sunday after the draw.

Sundowns, who have won this cup four times since the commercial bank took over in 2008, beat the University of Pretoria on Friday, to get the ball rolling in the quarter-final.

Stellies hammered SuperSport United 4-0 at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday. Pirates followed that up by beating gallantly fighting AmaZulu 4-2 at the Moses Mabhida stadium later in the day.

The match between Stellies and Sundowns will repeat of last season’s quarter-final at Athlone Stadium where Iqraam Rayners scored twice to dump the African giants.

Chippa booked their spot in the semifinals, beating TS Galaxy 2-0 at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

Mbombela Stadium will be hosting the Nedbank Cup for the first time since the 2010/11 season which was won by Pirates when they defeated Black Leopards.
