CT City Star Completes Move To Sudanese Giants
Cape Town City defensive midfielder Aprocious Petrus is set to play CAF Champions League football in the upcoming 2025/26 campaign after completing a permanent transfer to Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman.
The Namibian international has been a key cog in the heart of the Citizens’ midfield, breaking up play with his hard marking during his stint with the club, having joined in the middle of the 2023/24 campaign as a free agent after his exit from FC Liria of Kosovo.
Petrus made a total of 38 appearances across all competitions for City, providing two assists in the process. The Brave Warriors’ talent joins long-serving club captain Thamsanqa Mkhize, Thabo Nodada, and Darren Keet through the exit door, among others.
This comes after the Cape club suffered relegation from the South African top-flight division, prompting the 25-year-old to swiftly explore his options, and it was the Sudan powerhouse that presented a lucrative project to lure him away from the mother city.
The highly rated anchor man put pen to paper on a four-year deal that will keep him at Al Hilal until June 2029. The move is expected to enhance the player’s development, as he will gain continental experience.
Al Hilal qualified for Africa’s elite club competition by clinching the Mauritanian Super D1 league title, as they had been participating in an alternative competition alongside Al-Merriekh SC due to the ongoing civil unrest in Sudan.
The Sudanese juggernauts reigned supreme in a foreign land after amassing 67 points from 30 league outings, toppling Mauritanian giants FC Nouadhibou, who were crowned Mauritania Super D1 champions despite finishing second.
With approval from both FIFA and CAF, the two Sudanese teams are set to continue featuring in the Mauritanian elite league. Interestingly, Hilal recently thumped Merriekh 4-0 to win the league title in Sudan in what was an honorary match.
