Denmark Holds On For Euro 2024 Lifeline As Serbia Crashes Out

Denmark and Serbia played out a scoreless draw in Munich, a result that left them finish second while Serbia’s Euro 2024 journey came to an end on Tuesday.
Both teams, needing a win to reach the knockout stages, canceled each other out in a tense encounter. The intensity was evident from the start, with Nikola Milenkovic receiving a yellow card for a reckless foul just four minutes in.
Denmark looked the more threatening side in the first half. In the 21st minute, Christian Eriksen forced a comfortable save from Predrag Rajkovic with a long-range effort. However, their momentum was hampered by two yellow cards within two minutes. Jonas Wind and Morten Hjulmand were booked for fouls, with Hjulmand’s challenge earning him a one-match suspension.
Despite ending the first half goalless, Denmark appeared to be in control. However, Serbia emerged with more purpose in the second half after coach Dragan Stojkovic made two substitutions, bringing on Luka Jovic and Dusan Tadic in a bid to spark their attack.
Despite these changes, Serbia still failed to register a single shot on target throughout the entire match. Denmark continued to press, but most of their attempts lacked direction, testing the goalkeeper only once in the second half.
A penalty shout from Serbia in the 80th minute for a potential foul on Aleksandar Mitrovic was waved away by the referee. Ultimately, the final whistle blew on a lackluster encounter, with neither team able to break the deadlock.
The draw in the other Group C fixture meant the final standings remained unchanged. England topped the group with five points, followed by Slovenia on goal difference (both with three points). Denmark must now wait anxiously to see if they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams, while Serbia finishes the tournament at the bottom of the group with just two points.
