DHL Stadium Frontrunner To Host Nedbank Cup Final

DHL Stadium in Cape Town is the leading candidate to host this year’s Nedbank Cup final, Sportswire has learned.

The Nedbank Cup final is scheduled for 10 May, and organizers, in conjunction with the Premier Soccer League (PSL), appear to have secured DHL Stadium as the venue.

At this stage, the finalists are yet to be determined. However, defending champions Orlando Pirates have reached the semi-finals, along with record winners Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates will face Marumo Gallants, the club last to have defeated them in this competition, in the semis.

Chiefs will face the winner of the postponed match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United.

The Sundowns-Sekhukhune United (the quarter-final) match was canceled at the last minute due to a double booking at Lucas Moripe Stadium, prompting the PSL to postpone the game entirely.

The PSL has yet to announce the rescheduled date for the Sundowns-Sekhukhune United match.

The PSL has also yet to announce the dates and venues for the Nedbank Cup semi-final matches.

The last time DHL Stadium hosted the Nedbank Cup final was during the 2017/18 season, when Free State Stars defeated Maritzburg United 1-0 with a spectacular goal by Goodman Dlamini.

Jose Riveiro’s Pirates are the defending champions, having won the competition twice in the last two seasons, defeating Sekhukhune United and Sundowns respectively.
