Riveiro: If We Don’t Win The League, We’ll Try Next Season

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says the league title race is going to be tight now and if the Buccaneers don’t win it then they will try next season.
Pirates beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Sunday to bring back their hopes of winning the league.
Youngster Relebohile Mofokeng scored two quick goals for the Mighty Buccaneers in the first half.
Following the victory, the Spanish tactician was happy about their victory saying they proved to many people that they are a serious team, but it’s still a long way to go as the league title race is going to be tough.
“I said before the game that it’s three points but this type of a game people use to say it’s six points game, because when we play and we get the results or not – then you go to the locker room to see the team that you are chasing got the results or not,” Riveiro said.
“On Sunday we know we got the results and immediately I will know that the team we are chasing didn’t get the results. So, this is an opportunity to reduce the distance but it’s still a long way to go.
“We are playing with a team that is used to collect a lot of points, I’m sure it’s going to be a tight race if we are in the level that the challenge is asking. We are going to prove until the end of the season that we are at the level that the challenge is asking of each team in the league.
“Let’s see if we are capable of doing it, and at the end of the season if we are not winning we will go again next season. I think that’s football, that’s life and we are there we’ll try every week to do the job and I’m so happy that we proved on Sunday that we are a serious team.”
Sundowns lead the Betway Premiership summit with 58 points after 23 matches while Pirates have 43 points, having four games in hand of which it’s an advantage for them to move closer. The last time Pirates won the league was in the 2011/12 season under the guidance of Augusto Palacios. In that season, the Buccaneers won a treble as they also won two league cups.
