Duba Confirms: “I’m Not Going Anywhere,” Despite Transfer Rumors

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has assured fans that he is not leaving the club, despite a screenshot circulating on social media suggesting a potential departure.

The screenshot caused anxiety among Chiefs supporters, especially with the transfer window still active.

Speaking on Wednesday at an event where the Nedbank Cup champions, Chiefs and Nedbank, donated a new sports court to Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs, Duba quickly clarified his status.

“[Laughing], I’m not going anywhere; I’m staying with the team,” Duba said with a smile, reiterating his commitment.

There has also been concern from fans and even his coach, Nasreddine Nabi, regarding Duba’s aggression on the field, with videos shared online showing him stamping on opponents.

Nabi had previously expressed worries about the young striker’s mental attitude.

Duba, however, claims that he is not concerned. “It doesn’t actually,” he said when asked if his aggression could be seen as brutality.

“That’s how the coach wants us to play. It’s just the comments, people coming to your account, threatening to kill you, all that.”

He admitted that social media negativity has affected him. “The last game [when Chiefs beat Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium] I wasn’t in the right space of mind, and I didn’t even go back to go there [to see what is said on social media].”

Duba, who will always be remembered for scoring the crucial goal in the Nedbank Cup semifinal victory over Mamelodi Sundowns before Chiefs went on to beat Orlando Pirates in the final, said that social media comments sometimes tempt him to respond.

“I don’t think those things [social media posts] frustrate me much,” Duba said. “I usually talk to my brother; he always calms me down. At times, I feel like talking back or sending a text back after getting negative comments, whenever they have said something about me.”

Since being promoted in January 2023, Duba has featured in 43 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing four assists.
