Duba Promises Silverware For Chiefs Fans

Kaizer Chiefs youngster Wandile Duba has vowed to end the club’s long-standing trophy drought this season, expressing confidence in the team’s new approach under recently appointed managerial leadership.
The Soweto giants are coming off their worst-ever league finish, ending 10th last season, extending their trophyless run to a painful nine years.
However, early signs suggest there is renewed hope at Naturena. Chiefs have won two of their first three league matches, with their only loss coming narrowly to reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who edged them by just a single-goal margin.
Duba, a promising striker in the squad, radiated optimism about the team’s trajectory under their new coach’s guidance.
“For sure. We will win a trophy this season. We are concentrating on all tournaments that we are going to play this season because our goal is to win all of them,” maintained Duba.
Chiefs’ matches so far have been sold-out affairs, which might create added pressure for some of the younger players. However, Duba, who has made the leap from the club’s development team to the first squad, said playing in front of packed stadiums is nothing new to him.
“If you watch DDC games you will see that we’ve been doing this already, playing in full stadiums. So, it does not pressurize us anymore. It’s just like coming to training, and it helps to see your peers in the first team, it makes you want to work more,” Duba explained.
One key factor that has ignited hope among Chiefs fans is the noticeable shift in the team’s mentality. Duba echoed these sentiments, crediting the new leadership for driving this change.
“It’s the mentality like I said last time. The mentality has changed. Now I can feel that I’m playing for Kaizer Chiefs, and I want to work. We can feel it, and the coach tells us that our mentality should show that we are playing for Chiefs. Give 110% more than the opposing team,” he emphasized.
As the season progresses, Amakhosi fans will be hoping that Duba and his teammates can deliver on the promise of bringing long-awaited silverware back to Naturena. With a rejuvenated squad, a fresh mindset, and strong performances in the opening rounds, the belief is steadily growing that this could indeed be the year that Chiefs return to glory.
But they must show that when they visit SuperSport United in the Carling Knockout Cup round 16 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (20:00).
