End of an Era: Amakhosi Development Product Part Ways With Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of defender Happy Mashiane with immediate effect following the mutual termination of his contract.
Mashiane spent last season on loan at Siwelele FC, alongside fellow Chiefs midfielder Samkelo Zwane. However, the 28-year-old endured a frustrating spell, making just one appearance for the club.
While Chiefs have decided to part ways with Mashiane, it appears Zwane, who is also a product of the club’s development structures, will remain at Naturena ahead of the new season.
“Kaizer Chiefs defender Happy Mashiane has left the club following the mutual termination of his contract,” Chiefs said in a statement.
“The Tembisa-born player joined the Amakhosi development structures as a teenager before being promoted to the senior team at the start of 2019.
“We sincerely thank Happy for his valuable contribution to Amakhosi and wish him all the best.”
Mashiane made his senior debut for Chiefs in a Nedbank Cup match against Tornado FC in 2019 under then-head coach Ernst Middendorp. At the time, he was just 21 years and six days old.
He leaves the club having made 69 appearances across all competitions, contributing four goals and five assists during his time with the first team, having won the Nedbank Cup only with Chiefs in the 2024/25 season.
He will be remembered for being sent off in the CAF Champions League final in 2021 against Al Ahly.
Mashiane becomes the second player to depart Chiefs in the space of two days after the club confirmed the exit of George Matlou on Wednesday.
With the club continuing its squad restructuring ahead of the new campaign, more departures are expected in the coming weeks.
