Ex-Amakhosi Mastermind Closing In On Sekhukhune Job After Chiefs Exit!

Sportswire has established that all signs point toward Cedric Kaze becoming the new head coach of Sekhukhune United.
Kaze is currently a free agent after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the recently concluded season. He had been serving as co-coach alongside Khalil Ben Youssef. The duo successfully guided Amakhosi to a third-place finish—the exact CAF Confederation Cup qualification spot that Sekhukhune United had been eyeing.
Their success marked a massive turnaround for Chiefs, returning them to the top eight after the club infamously finished outside the top half of the table in the previous two campaigns.
Sekhukhune were initially interested in poaching AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane. However, Usuthu club president Sandile Zungu confirmed exclusively to this website that the former Chiefs mentor will remain with the Durban-based side.
Sekhukhune’s interest in Zwane spiked after he guided Usuthu to a fourth-place finish this past season, landing just one spot ahead of Babina Noko.
Additionally, Sekhukhune’s new Director of Football Strategy, Walter Steenbok, appointed in March, holds a long-standing professional relationship with both Zwane and the modern technical.
Sekhukhune ultimately finished fifth under the guidance of assistant coach Paulus Masehe, who took over the reins on an interim basis until the end of the season following the sacking of Eric Tinkler.
Kaze’s journey with Chiefs began early in the 2024/25 season when he arrived to serve as an assistant coach and translator for Nasreddine Nabi.
During that debut campaign, Nabi—flanked by Kaze and Ben Youssef—led Chiefs to a dramatic Nedbank Cup triumph in May 2025, defeating rivals Orlando Pirates in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
That cup victory booked Amakhosi’s initial return to the Confederation Cup.
However, when Nabi struggled early in the subsequent term, Chiefs parted ways with the Tunisian tactician in October 2025. Kaze and Ben Youssef were handed the dual role of leading the team.
The pair excelled, steering Chiefs to third place in the Betway Premiership with 54 points. This marked the first time the Naturena-based giants crossed the 50-point milestone in the league since agonisingly losing the title to Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the 2019/20 season under Ernst Middendorp.
