Former Chiefs Striker Scores On Debut
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana scored on his debut at his new Algerian club USM Alger, just two days after being announced as a new signing at the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup winners.
While he opened his account for the Algerian giants, the goal wasn’t enough to prevent USM from losing their first match in six league outings as it only proved to be a consolation in a 2-1 defeat to MC El Bayadh.
Marcos Paqueta’s men are currently in third place with 29 points amassed after 18 matches played.
USM is three points behind Khanyisa Mayo’s CR Belouizdad, coached by Sead Ramovic. Additionally, they are five points behind defending champions MC Alger.
The move came as a surprise, as the 27-year-old Burundi international has now established himself as a nomadic figure, with the Algiers-based team becoming his 10th club of his professional football career.
Bimenyimana penned a deal that runs until 31 January 2026 with the eight-time Algerian Ligue 1 champions, with an option to renew. This comes after he parted ways with Persian Gulf Pro League Side Zob Ahan Esfahan on mutual agreement.
The ex-Chiefs cult hero left the club before the end of the transfer window in Iran, citing unpaid wages which allowed him to quickly secure a new home. The Burundian had joined the club on 31 October last year and made only five appearances.
USM Alger is the third club he will turn out for since he left Amakhosi at the end of the 2022/23 season.
In his one-season stay at Naturena, he netted eight goals, including three penalties against Stellenbosch, and provided one assist in 21 matches across all competitions.
