Galaxy In Hot Water With FIFA Again

Betway Premiership club, TS Galaxy, have landed in hot water with the world football governing body as they have been sanctioned by FIFA due to a contractual dispute with Liberian midfielder Jegbay Morris Konneh.

The 21-year-old starlet was part of the eight players that were signed by the Mbombela-based outfit at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, but never featured in any official match for the club despite taking part in pre-season.

Morris put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Rockets upon his arrival in South Africa.

However, the youngster only lasted six months as he ultimately parted ways with the club, citing unpaid salaries for the duration of his stay.

Following his premature exit at Galaxy, the Liberian made it his mandate to lodge a formal complaint with FIFA in a bid to get his full dues, in what he believes was a breach of contract by the Tim Sukazi-owned club.

Now, with all submissions from the parties involved having been received by the disciplinary committee as of May, FIFA has since issued its findings in the case, ruling against the South African top-flight side on Wednesday.

In a document seen by Sportswire, FIFA has ordered Galaxy to pay Morris a net figure worth in the region of $ 100 800 (R 1,789,910.66) for the breach of contract offence, which could have serious repercussions on the club’s transfer budget.

The 2019 Nedbank Cup champions have an option to appeal the decision through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), among other options. Should the club opt to challenge the decision through the expensive CAS route, it would have to part with a large sum of money.

It remains to be seen whether Galaxy will go through with the appeal or not, as failure to settle the outstanding amount to Morris within 45 days will result in a FIFA transfer ban being imposed on the club.

According to FIFA records, the Mpumalanga team already has triple three-window bans, with two of them coming into effect in December 2024 and the other one in May 2025. Moreover, there is an additional sanction from April 2025 lingering over the club until lifted.

The 2023/24 Carling Knockout finalists are no strangers to a transfer ban, as one of the recent sanctions included a case involving Ivorian striker Bernard Yao Kouassi, who was paid an amount of R 1.8 million, which saw the club get off the hook with FIFA in June 2024.
