SuperSport United attacker Bradley Grobler believes he still possesses the ability to continue his football career, despite his advancing age.

With his contract set to expire in June, Grobler has consistently been one of the team’s most reliable players. Despite battling injuries, he has distinguished himself as the club’s leading striker. This season, he has made 13 appearances and scored four goals.

Although age is no longer in his favor, Grobler remains determined to play and insists on making his own decision about retirement. He states he will only stop when he feels he is no longer performing adequately for himself and the team.

When asked about the possibility of retiring next season, Grobler responded, “Yes and no.”

“Obviously, it’s something that’s probably going to get brought up by everyone else more than me. I mean, I’m playing 90-minute games, I’m finishing games, I’m still scoring goals, and most importantly, I still enjoy playing.

“I’m still enjoying myself, I love what I do and you know I feel I still got time to play and I’m very hard on myself and I always say to myself the day I feel I’m letting myself down and the team down that the day that’s the day I’ll start looking at, stop playing.”

Grobler, who has scored 91 goals in 291 matches for SuperSport, continued: “So for now, obviously focus on this season and the last games, and the goal for me is to carry on playing. That’s what I want to do, and I don’t want somebody else to tell me it’s time to stop. I’m very hard on myself, so the moment I feel like I just can’t or I let myself down or the team down, that’s the day I’ll stop.”

SuperSport United, who are currently at the bottom of the league table, will host Richards Bay at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday at 15:00.
