Motaung: Chiefs’ Return To CAF Is A Major Boost For South African Football

Kaizer Chiefs’ marketing director, Jessica Motaung, has expressed her excitement about the team’s return to the CAF competition after winning the Nedbank Cup.

Following Amakhosi’s victory in the Nedbank Cup final against their big rivals Orlando Pirates, the Phefeni Glamour Boys booked themselves a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony of the new CAF Champions League trophy this week, Motaung revealed the importance of Amakhosi being back in the CAF competition.

“It’s very important that Kaizer Chiefs are back in the CAF competition,” Motaung said, highlighting the significance of this milestone for South African football.

Motaung emphasized that Chiefs’ participation in the Confederation Cup reflects positively on the South African league, particularly with many local players moving to other African countries and clubs competing at the highest level.

“The club is very excited that Chiefs are back in African football, and we are looking forward to flying the flag,” she added.

This development marks a significant turnaround for Amakhosi, which has struggled to make an impact in recent years.

Their last notable achievement was reaching the Champions League final in the 2020/21 season, where they lost to Al Ahly, coached by South African coach Pitso Mosimane.

Under the guidance of Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs are looking to make a strong impression in the Confederation Cup.

Chiefs will be joined by either Stellenbosch or Sekhukhune United in the competition, with both clubs currently battling for third place in the Betway Premiership. Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates have secured spots in the CAF Champions League.

Motaung’s enthusiasm for Chiefs’ return to CAF competitions is evident, as she emphasized the club’s commitment to success on the continent.

“We’re very excited to be back and looking forward to really representing the South African league and Kaizer Chiefs brand at the highest level,” she said.

With their sights set on continental glory, Chiefs are poised to make a statement in African football once again.

The team’s return to the CAF competition is a major boost for South African football, and their participation will undoubtedly elevate the profile of local football, showcasing the country’s talent and competitiveness.
