Grobler’s Late Heroics Thrills Hunt

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt praised veteran striker Bradley Grobler for his match-winning performance against Richards Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday.

The experienced forward came off the bench to score the decisive goal, showcasing his clinical finishing ability.

Hunt jokingly remarked that Grobler was playing on one leg, referencing the injury the striker sustained in the MTN8 quarter-final against Orlando Pirates in August.

Despite his physical limitations, Grobler’s determination and skill allowed him to make a significant impact on the game.

“We can’t keep on relying on Bradley, he has been doing it for, I don’t know for how many years. He had a major operation in August in the (MTN8) quarter-final against Orlando Pirates and he was out,” said Hunt.

“I played him in the last two weeks, he was struggling. I said ‘I will leave you out tonight (Friday)’, and I said ‘You will come on and score a winner’.

“I think he gave the ball away five times and the best touch was a goal, but that’s Bradley for you. He has been a fantastic servant of the game, fantastic goal scorer, and has been a good servant for SuperSport.”

Grobler, who has scored over 100 goals in the PSL, will face strong competition next year when SuperSport is finally able to call upon Samir Nurkovic. The former Kaizer Chiefs, who was signed a few weeks ago, can’t play for the club until January next year when the FIFA transfer window officially opens.

This after Nurkovic was registered by TS Galaxy at the start of the season to the PSL and they terminated his contract after the transfer window was closed.

The win over bottom side Bay saw SuperSport move to eighth in the Betway Premiership table with 12 points after 10 matches.

Hunt’s side are back in action at home when they host Carling Knockout Cup champions Magesi FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday (20:00).
