Riveiro Reveals What They Learnt Playing Against Al Ahly

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has revealed what they learned while playing against Al Ahly, an experienced team when it comes to the CAF Champions League.

Pirates were visited by the Red Devils on Saturday at Orlando Stadium in matchday two of the CAF Champions League and the game ended 0-0

The last time these two sides faced each other was in 2015 in the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup, and fortunately, the Buccaneers won 4-3 away.

Both these two teams currently have four points each but are separated by the goal difference, and the Red Devils are in first place while Pirates are in position number two.

Riveiro says he is happy with the way his team played and they learned a lot from Al Ahly since they have more experience in the Champions League.

“The lesson for us is that when we play with this level of concentration, ambition, and determination we can compete on the day. We can compete with anyone again,” Riveiro said.

“We came here inexperienced playing with an experienced team with a lot of experienced players in this tournament. We coped more times during more spaces than them, we managed to be superior.

“The level that Pirates players show with the help of the fans, they well excellent. With our fans in Orlando, we are a difficult team to deal with.”

Pirates will now travel to Ivory Coast on Saturday to face Stade d’Abidjan in the third game of the group stages.

The Spanish coach believes that this game will be a tough one, but they will try by all means to get the maximum points.

“They are quite tactically, and for sure the away game is going to be tough, is going to be difficult,” Riveiro added.

“But I’m optimistic, I’m looking the fixture like an opportunity for us again to fight for three points. It will be nice to have those points, but we know we have to work hard to make it possible like we did in Algeria and also against Al Ahly.”

The Ivorian giant is at the bottom of the group and they are yet to register a point. Stade d’Abidjan lost both their opening two games against Al Ahly and CR Belouizdad.
