Hunt Fumes As Wins Elude Him In 2024

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt was left frustrated by his opponent’s ill-disciplined approach when TS Galaxy edged Matsatsantsa 1-0 in a DStv Premiership encounter at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Galaxy defender Mpho Mvelase found the back of the net in the 51st minute, taking advantage of a momentary lapse of concentration in the SuperSport’s defense to grant victory for The Rockets, avenging the loss in the reverse fixture.

Hunt was left frustrated, lamenting their lack of scoring opportunities.

“You know, it’s just unfortunate, I don’t think they were really disciplined, Galaxy and I think they had one chance the whole game and they scored. You know we had a lot of shots and opportunities, but we didn’t make the final ball count,” fumes Hunt.

By the 70th minute, Hunt had already made four changes, pulling out two of his key players in 18-year-old Shandre Campbell and seasoned sniper Bradley Grobler but it proved abortive as his substitutes failed to find a leveler.

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor showed acknowledgement to his players’ mistakes, saying his boys will have to learn from them.

“They’re suffering at the moment but they’re going to have to learn very quickly, because there was another technical error that we should’ve done better with, but you know those types of things we need to learn from them,” said Hunt.

Hunt further insisted that the weather conditions did not play any major role in his team’s loss on the day.

“Well, it’s the same for both sides, so we can’t complain about the weather. It’s very difficult but hmm yah you know,” said Hunt.

After Saturday’s defeat, the Tshwane giants went down to sixth place on the DStv Premiership table, taking a knock on the race for a CAF club competition spot.

Hunt, whose side has not won a league match in 2024, is now preparing for the Nedbank Cup quarter-final encounter against in-form Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday.
