Joma Sport SA Donates Sports Kits To UMgungundlovu Schools In KZN

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Hon. Mntomuhle Khawula, has praised Joma Sport South Africa for its continued contribution to sports development and community upliftment in the province.

This comes after the company donated sports equipment and apparel to David Mkhize Primary School and Mpolweni Secondary School in the uMgungundlovu District, in a gesture aimed at empowering young learners through sport.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Khawula commended Joma Sport SA for investing in grassroots development and helping to create opportunities for young people to pursue their sporting dreams. He described the initiative as an important step towards nurturing future athletes while also encouraging discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among learners.

The MEC also used the occasion to urge more businesses and private sector stakeholders to work together with government in promoting and developing sport across KwaZulu-Natal. According to Khawula, partnerships between government and the private sector are essential in ensuring that young talent is identified and supported from an early age.

“The support shown by Joma Sport South Africa demonstrates the positive impact that businesses can have in communities. These kinds of partnerships help inspire young people and provide them with resources that can change their lives,” said Khawula.

Learners who attended the event were also encouraged to see themselves as future leaders and global citizens capable of achieving success both on and off the field. The handover is expected to go a long way in motivating aspiring athletes and budding sports enthusiasts to excel in their respective sporting codes.

Joma Sport South Africa has played a significant role in supporting sport in KwaZulu-Natal over the years. The company has previously sponsored brand-new vehicles for the province’s Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year award winners, further cementing its commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence in sport.

The sportswear company also enjoys a strong partnership with Betway Premiership club Richards Bay FC as the team’s official kit sponsor.

For many of the learners who received the equipment and apparel, the event served as inspiration and a reminder that opportunities in sport are possible with hard work and dedication. Some of them could one day represent professional clubs such as Richards Bay FC, while others may grow into national stars capable of winning prestigious sporting accolades in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.
