Johnson: We Will Get Right Soon

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson is sounding like a scratch record of late, saying they are playing well but results are not coming.

It has been a familiar theme in his post-match interviews, and it was the case again as they were humbled 2-0 by Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium in East London on Saturday.

Despite having started so well, Chiefs were run rugged by Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo’s side, who scored two goals through Bienvenu Eva Nga and Sinoloxolo Kwayiba in the first half to completely take the game away from their illustrious opponents.

It meant Chiefs suffered a back-to-back league defeat this season, leaving Johnson once again unimpressed with his team’s conversion rate in front of goals, also expressing his disappointment with the way his boys conceded the two “soft” goals to the Chilly Boys.

“We can say the conditions, but the conditions were the same for Chippa,” said Johnson.

“But we will get it right. We did have clean sheets, we have conceded goals, but we should get it right soon.”

As Chiefs dominated the early stages of the game, the former Platinum Stars coach, who was viewed as a better choice than what they had in Arthur Zwane and Molefi Ntseki having led Dikwena to second place a few seasons ago, said they should have made it count in that spell.

“We were supposed to have sealed the game in the first 20 minutes,” laments Johnson.

“We had three or four good opportunities where we had to put them on the back foot but then we conceded to very, very soft goals.”

In the end, Chiefs only had two shots on target, again highlighting the difficulty of 2024 where they are yet to win a league match and have only scored three goals.

“We lost the game so we’re not happy but at the same time I cannot say I’m not happy with my player’s performance,” he said.

“I thought they put up a good performance. The one thing I’m not pleased with is that we gave away two silly goals and that creates just a big, big fight.”
