Khoza Remains Mum On The PSL New Term
PSL Chairman Irvin Khoza remains uncertain about seeking another term as league head honcho, despite being the sole candidate.
Khoza, who has held the position since the league’s inception in the 1996/97 season, is nearing the end of his current term this month.
Last week, the PSL released a statement announcing the selection of the new executive committee, where Khoza was the only nominee for the chairman’s position.
The PSL election is scheduled for 13 November, and Khoza, who is also the chairman of Orlando Pirates, is set to be re-elected unopposed.
“The jury is still out on 13 November. It’s like a player on the field, ready for the match,” said Khoza.
“So, the arbiters are the people that we are meeting on the 13 and they will indicate what is their feeling.
“So, let’s wait for the outcome and see what happens.”
Unlike government elections, where candidates must mobilize public support, the PSL chairman election is determined by the votes of the 32 member clubs.
Khoza made these remarks during the announcement of the increased prize money at an emergency press conference on Wednesday at PSL Headquarters.
The winner of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership will receive R20 million, a R5 million increase from the previous R15 million prize offered by DStv.
DStv withdrew from its sponsorship at the end of last season due to the rising costs of running the league.
