Kolbe Revels, Set Sights On Wales Next Weekend

Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe was buzzing to score two tries as the double back-to-back world champions defeated England 29-20 at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

However, he credited his teammates for setting him up for those tries.

Kolbe scored both tries in either half, with the first in the first half receiving a brilliant cross-kick ball by flyhalf Mane Libbok on the right-hand side before losing his marker and dotting over.

In the second half, Damian de Allende beat two tackles from England defence before launching a brilliant offload for Kolbe.

The two-time World Cup winner then sidestep to beat his marker yet again to crossover; to win the game they were not under threat in the second half. The other tries were scored by Grant Williams and Pieter-Steph du Toit.

It was two wins out of two and the Boks will hope to finish the Autumn Nations Series tour with another win when they face Wales next weekend.

“It’s always good to score tries as wingers,” reacted Kolbe.

“Lots of credit to the guys inside for putting a hard work and those work doesn’t go unnoticed and for us we know as a team what it means during the each and very test match.

“We need to make sure that we can play 80 plus minutes game and not moments throughout the 80 minutes. We know next week will be another challenge for us, it’s not going to be easy at all.

“But I’m sure the boys will get together and improve as a team. But it is good to score tries as wingers.”

However, the Bok are set to make changes against Wales to give others a chance as coach Rassie Erasmus has done so to 50 players this season.

If Wales lose to Australia on Sunday, will sink to an all-time results low in their 143-year international rugby history.

They were defeated by Fiji last weekend, equaling a run of 10 Test losses set under Warren Gatland’s fellow New Zealander Steve Hansen in 2002 and 2003.

Lose to the Wallabies and Warren Gatland’s side will be the first Wales side to suffer 11 consecutive international defeats.

Since beating Georgia at the World Cup in October 2023, Wales have been toppled by Argentina, Scotland, England, Ireland, France, Italy, South Africa, Australia (twice) and Fiji.

With world champions South Africa looming on 23 November, Wales could go through a whole calendar year without winning a Test, which they have not experienced since 1937 when they lost three games in those 12 months.

But Kolbe cautioned that the test match won’t be easy, even though expectations are that he will be rested.

“Wales has never been easy to be honest,” said Kolbe.

“It’s always like that since I made my debut in 2018 against them. We know it is going to be a physical battle going down to Cardiff. I know people are writing them off.

“We will give them the respect and make sure that we prepare ourselves as well as we can next week and make sure that we implement what the coaches’ want and what we can also bring as players to the table to make sure that we are confident going to next week.

“But it’s not going to be easy at all. International rugby is not a walk in the park, it’s going to go down to the wire.”
