Mchunu Re-elected KZN Sports Confederation President

Administrator Thami Mchunu has been re-elected as the KwaZulu-Natal Sports Confederation president for the next four years during the Quadrennial General Meeting at Coastland Hotel on Saturday.
Mchunu ran unopposed and this is his third term as the KZN Sports Confed president. He described himself as still young and revealed he still has much to offer to the province’s sports.
As per the KZN Sports constitution, a member can serve as president for a maximum of three terms, meaning this will be Mchunu’s final term.
“During this term we’re concluding, we’ve worked with four MECs for Sports in KZN,” said Mchunu before his re-election. “So, now we must understand the priorities of MEC Mr Mntomuhle Khawula because that’s the government’s priority.
“However, there were no contentious issues in our relationships with the KZN Department of Sports during that period.
“I think there was a notion, as I commented in my overview, about the separation of politics and sports, especially on our side as sports administrators. I want to be seen as a sports person. When I speak, I should talk sports. We’re going to try to eradicate the confusion of sports by our members in our regions.”
Meanwhile, Alpheus Pole, the Limpopo Sports Confederation president, who was present in Durban, congratulated Mchunu, saying such individuals should remain in power for the betterment of the country’s sports.
“Congratulations to Baba Mchunu for his down-to-earth character and outstanding ethical leadership during challenging times in our revolutionary journey of sports development and excellence,” Pole told Sportswire. “We can’t get enough of such giants…and he remains humbled by the outstanding commitment and compassion towards growing sport and recreation as a vehicle of hope and inspiration.
“Sport remains the only gold and platinum towards growing the economy of the country and the continent.”
As Mchunu was appointed for his third term, there were also appointments for vice presidents and executive members.
The vice presidents are Peter Thompson, Zilungile Ntombela, and Bongani Sibiya.
The elected executive members are Aadil Khan, Graham Mckenzie, Prof Logan Naidoo, Precious Nzimande, Celani Mbuyazi, Zandile Malinga, and Themba Mkhize.
The next election will take place in 2028, by which time Mchunu will have stepped down as KZN Sports Confed president.
