Kopo: We Can Beat Pirates

Chippa United co-coach Kwanele Kopo has an unwavering belief that his squad can challenge Orlando Pirates. Riding high on their impressive cup run, Chippa faces its biggest test yet when they host the Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semifinal at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (15:00).

Having overcome lower-division sides en route to the semis, Kopo’s men stand on the cusp of glory. However, the road ahead is tough, as they prepare to face a formidable Pirates side.

“Tactically, can we do it? Yes, I believe so. Do we have players capable of competing with Pirates? Yes, I absolutely believe so,” Kopo asserts with unwavering conviction.

Injuries have posed a significant setback for United, with key players sidelined. Adding to their woes is the suspension of their captain Roscoe Pietersen, who was sent off against AmaZulu.

“We want to reach the Nedbank Cup final, but we have to beat Pirates to achieve that,” Kopo emphasizes.

Acknowledging Pirates’ strong form with five consecutive wins, Kopo recognizes the challenge. Yet, he exudes a desire to achieve the extraordinary, stressing the importance of reaching the final.

For Chippa, a berth in the final would be a significant milestone, a testament to the club’s journey since promotion to the PSL and relocation to Port Elizabeth in 2014. However, Chippa’s recent form has been a concern, having lost their last two matches, most recently against Moroka Swallows on Wednesday.

In the heart of the Eastern Cape, United prepares to write another chapter in their storied history, fueled by the collective spirit of players, coaches, and supporters alike. Will they defy the odds and etch their name in South African football history? Only time will tell as the drama unfolds at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
