KZN Primary Schools Athletics Championships Shine In Durban

Over 115 elite young athletes competed at the 2026 KZN Provincial Primary Schools Athletics Championships on 6 March at Kings Park Stadium. Co-organized by KZNA and the Department of Sport, the event serves as the primary qualifier for national school rankings.
The event delivered a vibrant display of talent, passion, and competitive spirit as learners from across the province showcased their abilities on a prestigious stage.
The championships were organised through a collaborative effort between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, and KwaZulu-Natal Athletics. Their partnership continues to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent, promoting grassroots development, and encouraging participation in sport across schools in the province.
From sprint events to field disciplines, the young athletes demonstrated not only skill but also resilience and sportsmanship. For many, this competition represents an important stepping stone in their athletic journeys, offering exposure and experience at a higher level of competition. Coaches, teachers, and families were also in attendance, providing vital support and motivation throughout the day.
The atmosphere at Kings Park was electric, with cheers and encouragement echoing across the stadium as each participant gave their best effort. Beyond medals and podium finishes, the event highlighted the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—values that extend far beyond the track.
Excitement is set to continue as the focus shifts to the KZN High School Provincial Track and Field Athletics Championships 2026, scheduled to take place from 7–9 March at the same venue. The upcoming championships promise even higher levels of competition, as top high school athletes from across KwaZulu-Natal prepare to battle it out for provincial honours.
