Lentjies Appointed AmaZulu Coach

Sportswire has learned that Kurt Lentjies has been appointed as AmaZulu’s DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) head coach with immediate effect.

The publication understands that Lentjies arrived on Friday to finalise the move with the Durban-based club.

The former midfielder, who had playing stints with Maritzburg United and Durban City, replaces Mncedisi Sibiya, who was dismissed late last year.

AmaZulu were unhappy with the team’s results and overall trajectory in the DStv Diski Challenge under Sibiya, prompting the club to appoint the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder to lead their youth side.

Lentjies will work alongside former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabo Mngomeni, who has been appointed as the assistant coach.

Mngomeni is well known for his international career and was part of the Amajimbos technical team as assistant coach to Vela Khumalo during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

AmaZulu will be hoping the new coaching partnership can improve their fortunes when the season resumes following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Usuthu currently sit seventh on the DStv Diski Challenge standings with 17 points from 12 matches.
