Mabunda: We Will Not Be Impulsive On Masha’s Allegation

Mamelodi Sundowns ambassador and spokesperson Tiyani Mabunda says the club will not act impulsively as it continues to gather all the facts following the suspension of performance analyst Mario Masha.

This publication confirmed on Monday that Masha had been suspended over allegations that he shared sensitive information with MC Alger coach Rulani Mokwena ahead of the two sides’ crucial CAF Champions League clash at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

In addition, this website has established that Masha has been suspended for six months pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. The club is allegedly to have confiscated the electronic devices he was using in his role.

“Definitely, Masha is suspended,” Mabunda said on SNAWA.

“We’re doing internal checks and investigations so we’re able to make the right call. Mamelodi Sundowns is a thoughtful club, and we want to get everything right before making a decision.

“We’re looking forward to resolving this matter as soon as possible because we’ve got many critical responsibilities on our table right now.

“Internal investigations are ongoing, and hopefully soon the club will make a statement.

“It’s a very tricky situation because the investigations are still ongoing to determine how true and how valid everything is.

“It has happened within the playing team setup, as opposed to other areas of the club. It becomes difficult to make a valid comment at this stage while we are trying to establish the facts so the club can issue a proper statement.

“It’s more on the technical side. I don’t even think the players are aware of what’s happening, especially with analysis. We’re trying to find ways to mitigate the situation, and hopefully it will be resolved soon.”

Mokwena maintains strong ties with Sundowns after serving the club for several years as assistant coach, co-coach, and later head coach. He left them at the end of the 2023/24 season, despite almost going the entire league campaign without a loss. He still managed to lead Sundowns to the league title as well as African Football League.

Masha’s History at Sundowns

Masha has been part of the Sundowns technical setup since August 2015, when he joined from Maritzburg United (now Durban City). A UEFA A licence candidate, he played a key behind-the-scenes role during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, including their historic CAF Champions League triumph in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane.

Crucial CAF Champions League Clash Looms

The timing of the controversy adds further pressure as Sundowns prepare to face Mokwena’s MC Alger on Saturday in their final CAF Champions League Group C fixture. Victory will be essential for the Tshwane giants to secure progression to the knockout stages.
