Maduka Sheds Light On Technical Team Decision At Magesi

Recently appointed Magesi FC head coach John Maduka has explained the reason why he opted against bringing his assistant coach to his new club, in favour of retaining the technical team he found in place.

The Malawian tactician was announced as the new leader in the dugout at the Limpopo club on Thursday, replacing Owen Da Gama, who successfully saved the team from relegation before departing as the two parties were unable to agree on new contractual terms.

Maduka, who accepted the Magesi project on the back of a tumultuous experience with the financially beleaguered Royal AM, surprisingly didn’t take the modern-day route to bring along some of his trusted allies to beef up the technical team.

The ex-Thwihli Thwahla mentor argued that the backroom personnel at the club are more than capable of helping him achieve his goals as they know the ins and outs of the team, having been with the side from their amateur days until they clinched promotion to the top-flight.

“I think you don’t just break something if it’s not necessary for you to do so. I strongly believe in the technical team that is there. It’s a technical team that has been there for a long time, helped the team to be promoted from the ABC Motsepe League to the NFD and the PSL,” Maduka said.

“So, I strongly believe that these coaches are not people who are just there; they know what they are doing, they know their job, and if I don’t need to bring someone else, then I don’t think it’s necessary.”

Though pleased with the technical support at his disposal, Maduka is not completely closing the door on luring new staff members to Dikwena Tsa Meetse should the reigning Carling Knockout champions need help in that department.

“If it’s needed for us as a collective, as a team, to say we want to reinforce the technical team, then we can be able to do so. But for now, we are very happy with the technical team that we have,” he confidently added.

“And sometimes you just reinforce it just to make sure you have a strong technical staff that can be able to help you achieve your goals.”

Following a 13th-place finish in their debut campaign in the Betway Premiership last season, the onus is on Magesi to avoid relegation and keep their top-flight status once again and possibly defend their first-ever major title.
