Maduka’s Message To Middendorp: I’m Desperate For Points Too

Royal AM coach John Maduka expresses mixed feelings about facing his former coach Ernst Middendorp, whose Cape Town Spurs side desperately needs points to avoid relegation.
Spurs, currently rooted to the bottom of the table, travel to Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday evening (19:30) in a bid to escape the relegation zone. However, with only four matches remaining, their task seems daunting.
The Cape Town club sits in last place with 15 points after 26 matches, eight points behind 15th-placed Richards Bay. Royal AM, on the other hand, occupies 14th position with 29 points after 25 games. Having a game in hand, Maduka is keen to capitalize on this advantage, especially after losing their last two home matches without scoring a goal.
“We are also desperate for points,” Maduka told Sportswire. “Yes, Moroka Swallows (who are 13th in the table with the same number of points) has played one more game than us, but winning our remaining matches is crucial. We can’t rely on favors from other teams. We need to win, especially at home.”
Despite their lowly position, Spurs have shown some improvement in the second half of the season. Under Middendorp, they have collected 11 points from 10 matches in 2024, which places them 10th in a separate table for the second round.
Meanwhile, Spurs receive a boost with the return of Chumani Butsaka, who is available for selection after missing the last three games due to injury.
