Makhanya: The League Is Gone Now

Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge coach Joseph Makhanya has lost faith in winning the league following their bad result during the weekend.

The Buccaneers suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss against the Durban-based side AmaZulu at VUT Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.

This was the seventh loss for Makhanya’s side this season, and they are currently sitting in position number five with 43 points after 24 games.

“No, the league title race is over for us now,” Makhanya told Sportswire after their loss on Saturday.

“If you don’t win your matches, you will not win the league. The title race is all about winning your matches.

“This is a match that we were supposed to take home, but still we allowed our opponent to win. If you miss many one-on-ones, then it’s over for you.”

Makhanya added they were supposed to win this game with a big score because they created a lot of chances, and he’s disappointed with the results.

“This was a game of wasted opportunities; that’s what happened,” he said.

“This is a game we should have won with a big score margin. We allowed two mistakes of which made the opponent come back in the game.

“This is a game that we were supposed to make sure that at least we win it convincingly, but we failed to do so.”

The Buccaneers will now visit Cape Town City in their next league game at Idas Valley Sports Ground in Cape Town on Saturday [10:00]. The Citizens, on the other side, won 8-2 against Magesi on Sunday morning. ‎
