Mamelodi Sundowns Defender Joins Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch are continuing to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, with coach Gavin Hunt adding experienced left-back Terrence Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mashego spent last season on loan at Durban City, where he helped the club win the Nedbank Cup and secure a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership.
The 28-year-old becomes Stellenbosch’s latest signing, joining George Matlou, Tlakusani Mthethwa, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Thabiso Lebitso.
In a statement, Stellenbosch confirmed the deal.
“Stellenbosch Football Club is delighted to announce the acquisition of defender Terrence Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Stellenbosch FC has bolstered its defence by completing the signing of Bafana Bafana international Terrence Mashego from Mamelodi Sundowns, with the left-back joining on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign.
“Mashego arrives in Stellenbosch on the back of a successful loan spell with Durban City, where he was part of the squad that won the Nedbank Cup last season – his second triumph in the competition after previously lifting the trophy with TS Galaxy in 2019.
“The 28-year-old also boasts an African Football League title and three Betway Premiership crowns from his time with Sundowns, and was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that finished third at the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.”
Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie welcomed the defender’s arrival.
“Terrence is a player who has competed at the highest level on both the domestic and international stages, and we believe he has the ability and quality to add significant value to our squad.
“We are delighted to welcome him to the club.”
