Matuludi Motivated By Interest From Other Clubs
Polokwane City star defender Thabang Matuludi has said that rumours linking him with bigger PSL clubs have not affected him, as the club has not communicated anything to him.
However, the speculation has been motivating, as it indicates he’s on the right track in his career.
Matuludi was instrumental in Polokwane City’s top-eight finish last season, alongside Oswin Appollis. He played 33 matches across all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist.
Appollis’ potential departure garnered more attention due to his inclusion in the Bafana Bafana squad that won bronze at the Ivory Coast AFCON. While Matuludi was part of the COSAFA Cup squad, he didn’t have the same spotlight.
Despite initial interest, it seems Polokwane City might retain the core of last season’s team, leading Matuludi to downplay the speculation surrounding his future.
“I haven’t been distracted by the rumours because they’re just media talk,” said Matuludi. “Polokwane City hasn’t said anything to me. Perhaps the club knows more than I do, but I’m focused on the team as I’m contracted here. I have no information about what’s been said or written.”
As a top-eight finisher, Polokwane City will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarterfinals at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday (15:00). Matuludi is expected to play a crucial role against Sundowns, who last failed to reach the MTN8 quarterfinals in the 2020/21 season.
The 25-year-old admitted that the media attention surrounding his potential move has been a confidence boost. “It’s motivating because it shows I’m doing the right things,” he said. “But I need to keep working hard.”
