Mhango Scores A Worldie As Malawi Stuns Namibia In World Cup Qualifier

Gabadinho Mhango lit up the CAF FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a spectacular goal, leading Malawi to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Namibia in the match played at Obed Itani Chileme Stadium on Friday.
PSL Stars Collide
The game was decided by a moment of brilliance from Mhango. In the second half, a defensive error from Namibia’s midfield allowed the Richards Bay forward to seize the ball.
With a quick touch, he unleashed a stunning strike that sailed over the head of Golden Arrows goalkeeper Edward Maova, who had no chance of saving it. The goal is already being hailed as one of the best of the qualifying campaign.
Mhango, who captained the Malawi side, was a constant threat throughout the match. He was unlucky not to score more, hitting the crossbar with a powerful shot and forcing a brilliant save from Maova on a curling effort. Malawi’s first goal came early in the fifth minute from Richard Mbulu, a former Baroka player.
The PSL Connection
The match was a battle of familiar faces for South African football fans. Namibia’s lineup featured several prominent PSL players, including Orlando Pirates’ Deon Hotto, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile, and AmaZulu’s Riaan Hanamub. For Malawi, the star of the show was Mhango, a former Pirates fan favorite.
Namibia did manage to pull one back late in the game through a header from David Ndeunyema in the 86th minute, but it was too little, too late.
The win for Malawi moves them to nine points after seven matches, dealing a significant blow to Namibia’s qualifying hopes despite them holding onto the second spot in their group.
