Mngqithi Dismisses Chiefs Offer Talks

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngithi has shed light on the reality of rumors related to receiving a coaching offer at Kaizer Chiefs while declaring his availability for future projects.
Sundowns made an official announcement on the release of Mngqithi this Tuesday after the 53-year-old had only served the club as head coach for just four months.
Breaking his silence in Robert Marawa’s radio show on Wednesday evening, the former Golden Arrows coach touched on many issues about his stint as the Downs head coach and his subsequent dismissal.
Having stayed in the Brazilians’ technical team for a lengthy 12-year period, surviving multiple coaching changes and departures, the tactician was frequently linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs who had been facing multiple coaching woes during the same period.
“There was never any discussions I had with Kaizer Chiefs before and I hear people say I did not want to take the job and all that, it is not true. There was never anything that came. There were always rumours that never led to anything. There was never any formal approach,” declared Mngqithi.
Having worked at the same club for more than a decade, many would assume the coach is planning a potential sabbatical or a break from a stressful coaching career. The KwaZulu-Natal-born technocrat has however opened the door for any potential offer that should spark his interest.
He further availed himself of a return to his former club, Golden Arrows, as co-coaching Mabhuti Khenyeza decided to walk away.
“Any club that makes an approach we will listen and hear what they bring,” announced the 53-year-old.
Along with Arrows, KZN neighbors, Richards Bay is also one of the PSL clubs that remain without a head coach and could also be lining up with an offer on the cards for the recently unemployed coach.
