Mngqithi Provides Another Update About Zwane’s Injury

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given another update about the injury of his captain Themba Zwane who has missed the last games due to his injury.

The 35-year-old Bafana Bafana vice-captain suffered his injury in their Bafana Bafana 1-1 draw against Congo Brazzaville in Congo this month. Mshishi was replaced by Orlando Pirates’ midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi in that game.

The former Mpumalanga Black Aces midfielder had made his 50th cap for Bafana Bafana against Congo Brazzaville in Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Fortunately, winning 5-0 on his special day, before the return leg.

Mshishi has missed three games now for Sundowns because of his injury.

Sundowns captain missed their game against Golden Arrows, Royal AM, and also against Polokwane City on Sunday when they lost 1-0 away.

After Sundowns’ 5-0 victory against Golden Arrows, Mngqithi revealed that Zwane will be out for maybe about four to six months but now he has provided another update.

“It’s still too far [for Zwane to recover],” Mngqithi said.

“It’s still in the first phase. For the moment we are anticipating him to be out for the injury. It’s still too far.”

Zwane’s injury will not only affect Sundowns but even Bafana Bafana. Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will try a new player in next month’s crucial qualifiers against Uganda away and South Sudan at home. Bafana Bafana need just one win to book their spot in the AFCON finals that will take place in Morocco next year.

Meanwhile, Sundowns suffered another blow against Polokwane. Siyabonga Mabena and Tashreeq Matthews were left injured, joining Zwane, Lesiba Nku, and Kegan Johannes in the injury list of the Brazilians.

Johannes is expecting to start full training this week as revealed by Mngqithi on Wednesday after their 2-1 victory against the KZN-based side Royal AM last week. The former SuperSport United right-back suffered during the season.
