Mntambo Overwhelmed By PSL Accolade.
Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has credited his team for his astonishing display which has led to him earning the career first monthly award.
On Monday, the Premier Soccer League announced the winners of its latest monthly awards for February and March.
Figo, as Mntambo is known, was announced as the DStv Premiership player of the month for his terrific form between February and March.
Coming back from injury, the Sekhukhune captain has managed to contribute five goals in five games, scoring three and grabbing two assists.
Beaming in excitement, Mntambo expressed his gratitude for the appreciation for the prestigious accolade.
“I’m just overwhelmed with excitement, I’m proud of the achievement, the accolade that I have just received and for the hard work that I have been putting on behind the scenes,” the former Orlando Pirates midfielder said.
The former Chippa United player suffered what was said to be a career-threatening injury in October 2022, and had not played a game since, until his return in February.
Mntambo gave thanks to the people who contributed to his rehabilitation including the Sekhukhune medical team, technical team, and teammates.
“I’ve been working very hard with the medical team to get back to full fitness and making sure I come back and contribute to the team’s success. All thanks to the coaches, I wouldn’t have got this without the coaches and the players,” said Mntambo.
The 34-year-old, who is also known for sharing his motivational quotes and bible scriptures on his Instagram, made sure to not forget the role God played in his recovery.
“I would not end this without saying this just belongs to…Glory just goes to the Highest, to ‘Modimo’ for his grace and favor over my life,” said Mntambo
The part-time model further shared a bible verse that he dedicated to his prolonged rehabilitation process.
“There’s a verse that I go about, it’s Romans 8 verse 28, and that verse says that things work for the good of those who love Him and are called according to his purpose. So, God knew that the injury was part of the routine, and it was working for my good,” he said.
With his five goals in just eight games in 2024, Mntambo obtained himself a spot in the top 10 of the DStv Premiership top scorers and will look to captain Sekhukhune into the race for the CAF spot in the league.
Mntambo’s coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, claimed the PSL Coach of the Month for the same period, the first time this has happened in the short history of the club.
