Mohafe: Arrows’ Victory A “Cherry On Top”

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has labeled their midweek Betway Premiership victory against Golden Arrows as “the cherry on top,” saying that the opposition has consistently “harassed” his team in the past.

Phuti’s side secured their second win of the season, beating Arrows 2-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday. The victory moved them into eighth place with nine points after six games.

“This team has been harassing us,” said Phuti.

“They harassed us a lot. The only moment that we beat them is when we get a draw. They harass us even in front of our supporters, so for us to beat them here is a cherry on top of the cake.

“So we are very happy to beat them and to win this match, and I think this match takes us back to our bracket, which is the top eight. I think we are back there, and I think we just need to consolidate now.”

The 51-year-old further commended his players for their impressive performance.

“I have to take all the credit for my players,” said Mohafe.

“I have to humble myself before them and give them a big pat on their shoulders. They showed mental resilience, they showed bug character, and I’m so grateful again for my players who are coming back from injuries, and we are becoming stronger.

“We started very badly, in the first half we didn’t play well. We lost possession through passing; we didn’t react quickly in marking. We didn’t defend well, and when attacking, we lost passes. But good recovery from the second half, the boys showed that they want to win the match. We had a record to protect at home, and I think that is what we are doing,” Mohafe added.

Rise and Shine will look to continue their momentum when they face Chippa United at home on Sunday.
