Mokwena Admits Interest In Zungu

Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena has expressed interest in signing midfielder Bongani Zungu.

However, he acknowledges facing competition from another club for the former Mamelodi Sundowns player. Rumors have linked Zungu with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, a destination attracting top talent in recent years.

Zungu departed Sundowns at the end of last season despite regular playing time. Mokwena also left the club after a successful campaign that saw them clinch the league title and the African Football League.

“We are interested in Zungu,” said Mokwena on the MSW with Robert Marawa on Thursday.

“But I’m aware that there is an interest in Zungu elsewhere.”

They are other factors that makes Mokwena likes to work with Zungu again, having played that part when he rejoined the club in 2022.

“Zungu is not just a footballer, but he is incredible person because I have known Zungu for a long time,” Mokwena revealed.

“So, I would like to work with him again.”

Interestingly, both Mokwena and Zungu are represented by the same agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, potentially increasing the likelihood of a move to Wydad.
