Mudau Ruled Out For Six Months

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that defender Khuliso Mudau will be sidelined for six months after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
Mudau was forced off during the first half of Sundowns’ 2–0 Betway Premiership victory over Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.
He was replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa in the 38th minute, with Cardoso initially expressing concern over the severity of the setback.
After Mudau underwent specialist evaluation on Thursday, Cardoso delivered the official diagnosis ahead of the team’s upcoming domestic fixture.
“Mudau is going to be out for six months,” Cardoso confirmed during Thursday’s MTN8 press conference, ahead of Sunday’s semi-final first-leg clash against Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The 31-year-old right-back suffered the non-contact Achilles injury off the ball before being stretchered off the pitch by medical personnel.
The loss is a major blow not only to Sundowns but also to Bafana Bafana, who kick off their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign next month under head coach Pitso Mosimane, who still has to iron out a few things with the association.
Mosimane, if he is appointed, will now have to plan without one of the national team’s most dependable figures over the past three years.
Since joining Sundowns, Mudau has established an impressive record, winning five league titles, the MTN8, the Nedbank Cup, the African Football League, and the CAF Champions League.
He has made 197 appearances for the Brazilians, contributing eight goals and nine assists, alongside 36 senior caps and one goal for South Africa.
