Mvala Set To Be Out For Sometime

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala will not form part of the side when they face Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-final at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday (15:00).

Mvala was part of the Sundowns’ players who were involved in an activation with other players such as new signing Kegan Johannes on Saturday and his knee was strapped with a cast and it is not clear how long the Bafana Bafana international will be out for.

The 30-year-old, who was converted to center back having played as a midfielder and in the attack sometimes as a false nine in the past, has been a key player in the side since he arrived from Highlands Park in the 2020/21 season.

He featured in 30 matches in all competitions last season, scoring one goal along with one assist.

Installed coach Manqoba Mngqithi, who replaced Rulani Mokwena, will now count on Grant Kekana, Mosa Lebusa and fit again Rushine de Reuck, and Johannes against Rise and Shine.

Mvala, since he arrived at Sundowns, has won four league titles, MTN8, Nedbank Cup, and African Football League. He has featured in 109 matches in all competitions, scoring six goals along with five assists.
